2021 MTB XCO European Championships: favourites, schedule and where to watch it live online
The 2021 XCO European Championships will be held in Novi Sad, Serbia, from 12 to 15 August. A competition that this year comes at a somewhat complicated date for many mountain bikers as it is between the Olympic Games and the next World Championships.
Favourites to win the 2021 European XCO Championships
From what we have seen during the past Olympic Games, the Swiss team should be the favourites to win the team title as well as the individual continental champions' jerseys.
But the dates of the European Championships has meant that some favourites have had to choose between competing here or focusing on their preparation for the World Championships. For example, Jolanda Neff, Sina Frei, Van der Poel or Nino Schurter have already confirmed that they will not be in Novi Sad in order to continue their preparation for the World Championships in Val di Sole.
Among the confirmed riders, the favourites are France's Pauline Ferrand Prevot, who will have to defend her title against Switzerland's Linda Indergand, bronze medallist at the last Olympic Games in Tokyo, Ukraine's former European champion Yana Belomoina, Poland's Maja Wloszkovska and cyclo-cross specialist Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado (Netherlands).
In the men's race, Spain's David Valero Serrano will start as top favourite for the title after his bronze medal in Tokyo. But cyclists such as Victor Koretzky (France), fifth at the Olympic Games and winner of a World Cup race this year, as well as former U23 champion Vlad Dascalu (Romania), Simon Andreassen (Denmark), Ond?ej Cink (Czech Republic) and young Simone Avondetto (Italy) will not make it easy for him.
