There is no doubt about it, Cavendish is back

British rider Mark Cavendish is one of the best sprinters in history and among other achievements he has 30 stage victories in the Tour de France, but he hasn't won anything for three years and there were many who didn't count on him. For all of them, "the express of Man" has just won his second consecutive stage in the Tour of Turkey.

Cavendish wins back-to-back stages at the Tour of Turkey

In the second stage of the Tour of Turkey, Mark Cavendish took the start in the blue leader's jersey he won yesterday after a sprint victory over Jasper Philipsen and André Greipel, to everyone's surprise.

But any hint of a fluke was dispelled today. Mark Cavendish launched a sprint 150 metres from the finish line where he beat Jasper Philipsen again to take another great victory.

"It's amazing, it's very, very nice. It's super nice. I never get tired of that feeling. The Tour of Turkey is not the Tour de France, but beating Jasper Philipsen and André Greipel is not easy," said Cavendish after winning the first stage.

Cavendish had not added any victory to his list of achievements since 2018. First it was due to a viral process that sidelined him for the whole of the 2018 season and then a depression that considerably reduced his level.

But with the support and confidence of his current team, Deceuninck-QuickStep, it seems that Cavendish, at the age of 36, is back to his best.

It is difficult to know what the British rider's current motivations are, but it is certain that the idea is still alive in his mind to try to take over the record number of stages won in the Tour currently held by the historic Eddy Merckx, from whom he is only 4 victories behind.
