This is undoubtedly one of the most important signings of the year and one of those that will mark the coming seasons. Austrian Mona Mitterwallner joins Cannondale Factory Racing.

We already anticipated a few weeks ago that the most promising mountain bike rider of the moment was waiting to be placed in a new team and finally it has been confirmed that from 2022 she will compete in Cannondale Factory Racing. One of the historic teams of the modality and one of the most powerful in the world today could reach a new dimension with the signing of Mona.

For those who are not quite sure who Mona Mitterwallner is and what her arrival at the CFR means, it is best to listen to Mona's own declaration of intent: “I want to be the best cyclist on the world scene of all time”.

Now 19 years old, although she started racing in 2017, Mona won the Junior World Cup for 2020 and made the leap to dominate the scene in 2021. This season she has won it all in the Under-23 category, World Cup, World Cup overall, European and Austrian nationals, and she also won the Elite XCM World Championships, becoming the youngest rider to do so.

Mona Mitterwallner's ambition knows no limits right now and joining Cannodale Factory Racing seems like a perfect relationship for both parties: “To be honest, I am very proud to call myself a CFR rider now. In Cannondale Factory Racing I see a team which not only can support me to reach my ambitious goals but also could be a long-term partner. I am looking forward to get to know the whole team to rock 2022 together!”. Mona said after her presentation.

For his part, Daniel Hespeler, Cannondale Factory Racing Team Manager expressed his excitement with this new addition: “I am super happy Mona has joined Cannondale Factory Racing for the coming years and into the 2024 Olympics. She is a great talent and person alike. Her resume of success is very impressive and we as a team are committed help her on her path to the top. Mona will make the move to the Elite in 2022 and we cannot wait to see her getting involved in the battles we saw in the Women’s Elite field over the last years.”

And obviously a signing like this transcends the team and the brand Cannondale itself has had a lot to do with the incorporation. This is how Jonathan Geran, Global Director Sports Marketing Cannondale, welcomed the cyclist:

“Mona showcases everything that is really cool about mountain bike racing – young and passionate with a dedication to improve every time she goes out for ride. She balances this with a down to earth approach that is always paired with a smile because she knows she puts everything into what she loves. We are beyond excited to add Mona to the Cannondale Factory Racing roster and build her momentum through to the next Olympic games alongside her talented teammates.”
