Canyon could be interested in Van der Poel joining Movistar Team
A year ago Mathieu Van der Poel renewed with his current team, Coredon Circus, until 2023. But since his magnificent season in the road races there are many rumors about his future. Although the most likely one is a new team with Alpecin and Canyon, there is another rumor that sounds stronger and in which it is stated that Canyon could be interested in Van der Poel joining the Movistar Team.
Mathieu Van der Poel to the Movistar Team?
As in the case of Peter Sagan with Specialized, some cyclists are very conditioned by their contracts with their main sponsor. In the case of Mathieu Van der Poel it would be with Canyon, with whom he has just renewed 4 more years.
If the new World Tour team that is being proposed by Canyon and Alpecin is finally not going ahead, the German bicycle manufacturer would need Van der Poel to end up in a world-class team. Since the Coredon Circus is Continental and Mathieu Van der Poel needs special invitations every time he decides to participate in a classic race or, in the near future, in a Great Tour.
As the Movistar Team could suffer a deep transformation in its staff for next year, this suggests that Canyon (sponsor of Movistar and Van der Poel) could try to place him in the Spanish team.
The operation would mean an important economic investment, since several clauses would have to be paid in addition to the cyclist's signature, so we will be attentive to see how this story ends.
