Orbea has just presented an update of its flagship mountain bike, the Orbea Oiz 2021. A version where we find few changes at first sight, but important ones, and where Orbea's sophisticated OMX carbon is the protagonist.

Orbea Oiz 2021: OMX carbon takes control

After more than 10 years in the top of the best full suspension mountain bikes and conquering podiums in the most important races of the planet, the Oiz model of Orbea has been updated again to remain at the same level in 2021. Among its most outstanding new features is the manufacture of the frame and rear triangle with OMX carbon, which significantly lightens the set, while offering a more efficient, reactive and agile ride.

The OMX carbon frame of the new Oiz 2021, the same as the Orca, blends high-modulus fibers and uses the best laser-cut pre-preg carbon sheets in its construction to the specific size of each frame to minimize excess materials and overlaps.

Fiber direction and layup are adjusted with different testing prototypes. After a specific pre-molding that takes hours for each final production frame before heating, the optimal compaction of the resin and fiber with a minimum amount of carbon is ensured.

The OMX carbon will be present in the LTD, PRO and TEAM models of the Oiz 2021 family.

New design of the rear triangle

The other significant change can be found in the rear triangle of the new Orbea Oiz 2021, where the chainstay have been shortened to 430 mm and a flat mount brake assembly has been included that accepts discs of up to 160 mm.

With these extra short chainstays it is clear that the intention of this Orbea Oiz OMX is to perform at its best in competition, allowing to be more efficient in climbs and explosive sections while helping to reduce weight.

For the OMR frames, the chainstays will remain at 435 mm, giving priority to stability at high speeds, reliability when manoeuvring and comfort.

Fiberlink

Another key point in this update is the new Fiberlink presented in the Orbea Oiz OMX 2021. Made of long injected fiber it provides an optimal balance between lightness and stiffness and integrates perfectly with the Oiz saddle shapes and tube.

Minimum weight

All of these changes, OMX carbon, 430mm chainstays and new linkage, can be summarized in a single figure: 1740g.

That's the weight of the new Orbea Oiz OMX frame in size M and with shock. An impressive 1740g, making it one of the lightest options on the market for full suspension.

Further details of the Orbea Oiz 2021

Important details such as the optimal and elegant internal wiring system, Inside Line, or the possibility of carrying two bottle cages, are maintained in the new update of the Oiz. As does the three-position SquidLock remote control, with the possibility of including the handlebar control, and the tiny and practical chain guide.

In addition, a new system in the stem offers a renewed and integrated aspect. The OC component is compatible with all major brands using standard adapters and completes the high-end feel of this modern XC bike.

For those who want a unique mountain bike, Orbea offers three exclusive designs (Mimetice, Titan gold and Marble) and a fourth option that combines matte and gloss finish. In addition, there are thousands of combinations to choose from using the MyO customization program.

One bike, two versions: Orbea Oiz XC and Orbea Oiz TR

It is clear that for those who want a pure XC mountain bike, the Orbea Oiz with 100mm suspension is the perfect model. But Orbea has also thought of those who don't mind sacrificing a few grams of weight by virtue of having suspensions that allow them to descend more comfortably and carefree. The Orbea Oiz TR is exactly the same mountain bike but with a 120mm fork.

This second option will be very appreciated by all those who like to practice a "light trail" but do not want to be penalized by the weight of any climb.
