We've had a month of presentations and the 2022 season continues to bring us news. Today it's the turn of the Scott Scale RC. The updated version of the Scott hardtail arrives with few but very significant changes. Wheels, graphics and above all price, are the small revolution after a strange year.

What's new in the Scott Scale RC 2022

The Scott Scale RC 2022 is already a reality. This can be announced after Scott has made public the models for next year and we have been able to quickly analyse all these small changes. Small but significant because Scott changes components and, above all, changes the upward trend in prices after the complicated year in which the coronavirus has revolutionised everything. The whole Supersonic collection was already big news, this Scale confirms what is coming in 2022.

Let's take it one step at a time. First of all, that little disappointment that always comes with reading that there are no major changes. There are no significant changes to the frame or geometry. Obviously, it wasn't the time and even less so in a frame that works perfectly and still has a lot to offer. The frame of the Scott Scale RC 2022 is the same, yes, but this Scott Scale is not the same. Jochen Haar recently said that "only the innovators survive", and the truth is that this Scale was already a small revolution, but to consider it a great innovation we will have to wait another year.

It is the details that make the slight difference. Firstly, the most surprising change in our eyes is undoubtedly the question of prices. Scott is not raising prices when virtually every single international bike brand has done so. Arguing the complicated conditions imposed by the coronavirus, the general trend has been to see a significant price increase. The Scott Scale RC 2022 has kept the prices of all its models almost the same. There are slight changes, but they are so insignificant and are both upwards and downwards, that we can say that the tendency is to imitate previous prices. We have already tested the previous Scale, we are waiting to test this 2022 version to give a verdict.

Secondly, the other significant detail is the commitment to a different key component: the wheels. Because in its mid-range models, Scott Scale dispenses with Syncros wheels and opts for a manufacturer with the DT Swiss baggage. Specifically, the model that undergoes the biggest change is the Scale RC 900, which goes from Syncros Silverton to DT Swiss XR1850. The mountain bike once again repeats as the top of the range of this Scott hardtail. It has an HMX carbon frame, and here we have to add something else. For the first time Scott has dispensed with its elite construction, previously known as HMXSL, which reduced the carbon weight of the HMX frame by around 90 grams. Now, this HMX becomes the top of the line and this World Cup version opts for a frame weighing 969 grams. Otherwise, it has the best of the best and maintains its price.

The little sister of the world champion version comes in very strong, in many ways comparable to the AXS version. It drops a step down in SRAM shifting and a step up in RockShox suspension, but little else. A great option, no doubt.

A small step down in carbon quality, so a small step up in weight. But the Team Issue version has undoubtedly been the most studied, perhaps because it is the most potentially sold in the whole range due to its balance. The change of wheels and the commitment to DT Swiss does not detract one bit of quality.

The most accessible version of the Scott Scale RC 2022 range is this Team. Its assembly and components do not allow us to speak of the lowest of the range because, although it is undoubtedly simpler and heavier, it is still a mountain bike of sublime quality. It returns to Syncros wheels and is the only one that mounts Shimano.
